National Hydropower Day is just around the corner on Aug. 24, and as a #PublicPower utility, we’re proud to receive renewable hydropower through Missouri River Energy Services, helping Wadena Utilities provide clean, reliable and affordable electricity to our community of Wadena. It’s just one of the many ways we’re investing in a dependable energy future.

🛑Four-Way Stop at Hwy 29 and Hwy 71🛑
As you probably have noticed, there is a four-way stop at the intersection of Hwy 71 and Hwy 29. Be sure to look out for those stop signs and slow down a bit when moving through the work zone. Thank You!

🚦Shop Among the Cones this weekend!🚦 Use municipal parking lots to make getting to and from your favorite spots easier! We have attached photos of the municipal lots available for use, there is a parking lot map on our website as well. Look out for back or alternate entrances, check for side street parking, and of course use the municipal lots.
Small businesses are in need of local support during construction! Changing accesses and sidewalks being ripped up can cause some headaches, so in the mean time let's support them by shopping local! You can also participate in the Wadena Chamber's Receipt Drop and win prizes for shopping, if your favorite stores don't have a box, give them a nudge! Getting through construction season can be rough, but we are confident it will be wonderful once completed!

We understand getting through the construction season can be rough, but we want to remind people what this portion of the road project will provide when complete!
Hwy 71/Jefferson St will get brand-new sidewalks, curb, and gutter, along with updated storm sewer improvements. While not glamorous, this storm sewer work is important for preventing flooding, property damage, and erosion. The traffic signals at Hwy 29, Bryant Ave S, and Aldrich Ave S will also be updated or replaced, and the road will be repaved for a smoother, more comfortable ride (just like on 71 N).
Hwy 29 has already had its sidewalks, curb, and gutter completed, along with additional storm sewer improvements. It will also be resurfaced. We look forward to when the work is complete! Thank you for hanging in there, Wadena!

Did you know flushable wipes are not flushable?
Despite their name, flushable wipes do NOT break down in sewer systems the way toilet paper does. They are one of the most common causes of clogged pipes and sewer backups for homes and even entire neighborhoods. In the United States, it is estimated that "flushable" wipe clogs cause up to a billion dollars in damage yearly. If you use them, toss them in the trash instead. Your pipes (and your wallet) will thank you!

🚧Co Rd 75 Access Closure 🚧
Starting Monday August 10th, crews will close access to Co Rd 75 from Hwy 10. They will be working to reconstruct the connection between the railroad and the highway. They're expecting this closure to last about two weeks, weather dependent. Motorists should use Hwy 10, Hwy 71 and Hwy 29. We appreciate your patience and resolve while they work to get these improvements completed for the community.

🚧Truck Detour🚧
Starting Monday, August 3rd, semi-trucks and large vehicles will be asked to use Hwy 10, 2nd St SW, and Hwy 29 to get through town. The intersection at Hwy 71 and Hwy 29 will be too narrow to allow large vehicles the space to turn.

🚧Hwy 71 Construction Starts Monday🚧
Crews will begin working on Hwy 71 (Main St) from Aldrich Ave to Franklin Ave on Monday, August 3rd. Crews will be working to install updated storm sewers, updated sidewalks and pedestrian ramps, replace the signal at Bryant Ave, install pedestrian signals at Aldrich Ave and Bryant Ave, and finally resurface and finish the roadway.
Traffic will remain open one lane in each direction. Watch for narrow lanes, closed shoulders, reduced speeds, lane shifts, and flaggers. Businesses will remain open for everyone, but expect temporary changes to accesses. Use side streets, municipal parking lots, and back entrances as best you can to get to your favorite spots.
Thank you for remaining patient while we make sure these improvements get done for the community. For more information on the project, visit our website, or view the MnDOT project page here: https://www.dot.state.mn.us/d3/projects/wadena/
