Crews are making steady progress on Highway 10, including excavation, storm sewer work, and utility crossings. Old pavement is being removed and the asphalt is crushed and reused as a base for the new concrete road. This approach is both efficient and environmentally friendly!
Thank you for your patience as improvements move forward to create a safer, smoother highway!

Highway 71 N Businesses are open. For businesses seen on this map, you will need to take the Hwy 71 detour and approach from the north. If we missed a business, let us know and we will get it added. This map will be available on our website and the Hwy 10/71/29 Project page. Maps will continue to be updated as phases of the project change.

Crews continue to make steady progress on the Highway 71 and 10 projects. Old pavement is being cleared to prepare for new road surfaces, crews are performing muck excavation, and new sewer and water lines are being installed.
Stay tuned for more updates to come.

Some may be asking, what exactly do these signs mean - "Road Closed, Local Business Only"
This sign means that the road is open only for access to local businesses located on the road.
Example: Imagine you wanted to go to a business on west Hwy 10 to shop. You can access them via Hwy 10 like you would normally (except hospital).
Example: Imagine you wanted to go to Detroit Lakes. You cannot get to Detroit Lakes via Hwy 10 in Wadena. You would need to follow the 71 to 29 to 75 detour.

Bright yellow pedestrian crossing signs have been installed along our detour route on 2nd St NW to help keep people safe during current roadwork. Please stay alert for people crossing and watch for the new signage while driving through the area. Thank you for helping us keep folks safe!

Business access will remain open through the project. Businesses shown on this map can be accessed via westbound Hwy 10. It is open to local traffic only, so if you need to reach a business shown below, you can still access it via Hwy 10.
Through traffic will need to use the Hwy 71/Hwy 29/Co Rd 75 detour. . If you have questions or feedback on the project, see the link below for the MnDOT contact page.

🚧Hwy 71 businesses are OPEN🚧
Business access will remain open through the project. Businesses shown on these maps can be accessed using side streets shown.
People wanting to access businesses north of what are shown here, must use the 2nd St NW/Juniper detour and enter from north 71. If you have questions or feedback on the project, see the link below for the MnDOT contact page.

As you have noticed, due to the Highway 71 detour, 2nd Street NW is experiencing heavier-than-normal traffic. Please use extra caution while driving this route — especially near pedestrian crossings. With the increased traffic volume, we want to ensure everyone remains safe: drivers, walkers, and cyclists alike.
Additional signage will continue to be placed to help alert motorists. Thank you for slowing down and watching out for each other, Wadena!

To support our local businesses during the highway construction project, we are sharing updated business access maps. These maps show how to access businesses within the construction zones and will be updated as project phases change. If there is a business we may have missed that is within the current construction zone, please let us know.
🟡Yellow Lines indicate detour routes.
🟠Orange Dashed Lines indicate the road is accessible to get to businesses but closed to through traffic.
🔴Red Dashed Lines indicate the road is closed.
Use 1st and 2nd St NE for businesses on the east side of Hwy 71.
Use Deerwood, Cedar and Birch avenues off 2nd St NW for businesses on the west side of Hwy 71
Businesses on 10 (except hospital) can be accessed using westbound Hwy 10 - local traffic only.
