Stump Grinding - City of Wadena
The City of Wadena is accepting written proposals from contractors interested in mechanical grinding stumps that are the result of trees removed either from disease or damaged from weather-related situations. These stumps are typically located on city boulevards or in city parks.
Work includes grinding of complete stumps (cut off at various heights) and tree roots that remain after the main portion of the stump has been ground. Additional stump or root cutting deemed necessary by the contractor prior to grinding shall be considered as an incidental cost and no additional compensation will be paid to the contractor for this work. All grinding shall be a minimum depth of 8” (inches) below the existing natural ground around the stump and shall include grinding of extended above ground tree roots/dirt mounds around the stump. Remaining debris cleanup and topsoil placement in the stump hole will be performed by others.
The proposal submitted shall include a separate bid price per stump as listed below. Stump diameters vary in size from 6” thru 36” diameter. The contractor may negotiate a price directly with the city for stumps larger than 36” (at grinding height) if necessary. The bid price shall be per stump and for grinding only as described above.

Completed proposals may be submitted to the office of the City Administrator, 222 SE 2nd Wadena MN 56482 until 4:30 pm February 4th, 2026. The successful contractors’ bid price shall be for a 22-month period beginning March 1st, 2026, through December 31st, 2027. The city reserves the right to accept and award the bid which is in the best interest of the city, reject any or all bids received, and increase or decrease the scope of the work identified in this proposal.
