Doing Business in Wadena

Wadena welcomes new and expanding businesses! The Wadena Development Authority (WDA), a department of the City of Wadena, with Port Authority status, has been creating conditions for doing business in Wadena for nearly a quarter of a century.

A variety of services are available for businesses wishing to expand or relocate, for persons who are interested in purchasing an existing business, and to entrepreneurs who want to start up a new business.  The WDA also provides services to local businesses to ensure their stability and long-term viability.

Located at the intersections of US Highways 71 and 10 - along with Minnesota Highway 29 – Wadena is situated in a nice, central location within a few hours drive of such population centers as Fargo - Moorhead (90 miles), St. Cloud (90 miles), Duluth – Superior (170 miles), and the Twin Cities (150 miles). A new airport, with a paved 4,005-foot runway, and a BNSF rail line round out a strong base of transportation infrastructure.

The WDA can provide assistance in a business’ site location process. Retail, commercial, office, or industrial sites are available. The WDA also oversees the Wadena Industrial Park, which features available lots and development incentives. The Wadena Development Authority will also acquire property or build to suit for qualified businesses willing to sign a long-term lease. You can download our loan fund guidelines and application form at the bottom of this web page.

The City of Wadena offers comparatively low municipal water and electricity rates, with plenty of excess capacity to meet your business needs. High-speed data access is also available, as is a video conferencing studio (at M-State Technical & Community College), to help meet all your telecommunication needs.
