The Wadena Housing and Redevelopement Authority (WHRA) was established in 1965 to provide housing services in Wadena. Throughout the history of the agency, the Wadena Housing Authority has administered local, state and federal programs under State and Federal guidelines and regulations. The Wadena Housing Authority is designated a high performer under the US Department of Housing and Urban Development in the operations of Public Housing.

The WHRA Board of Commissioners meet the 4th Tuesday of each month at 5:30 pm in the WHRA Main Office Conference Room with occassional Special Meetings called. The WHRA Board of Commissioners consists of five Commissioners with one position occupied by a member of the Wadena City Council. Tenant Representatives attend monthly Housing Authority Board Meetings and provide direct input regarding building operations.
