The Wadena Development Authority (WDA) is in the process of developing 63 new residential lots in the undeveloped portion of the Folkestad's East Addition to Wadena. The WDA is purchasing the remaining undeveloped portion of the plat and is planning to add municipal water, sewer, stormwater management, and paved street with curb & gutter. Plans are also in the project discussion to add a neighborhood park and a 17 acre nature preserve complete with walking paths for public enjoyment. The lack of available affordable quality residential lots along with the need for additional housing is driving the development. There are multi-family housing developers ready to create additional housing, however none have indicated an interest in the lot and infrastructure development. The WDA will finance the estimated $2,695,000.00 project using a combination of funding options that will not increase the levy or tax burden to Wadena residents.
